Pnp Sensor
what is the difference ?
between npn sensor and pnp sensor . what is the preferance betweem both types?
In response to the second answer you got here, a pnp sensor will have a pnp transistor in it, and a npn sensor will have a npn type transistor. So the question is perfectly valid. How hard is it to figure that out?
Now to your question. Another terminology for pnp and npn is “sourcing” for pnp and “sinking” for npn.
A pnp (sourcing) sensor switches the positive side of the signal. For example, a 24vdc pnp (sourcing) proximity sensor would be switching on the +24vdc side of the voltage when an object came in proximity range.
A npn (sinking) sensor switches the negative side of the signal. For example, a 24vdc npn (sinking) proximity sensor would be switching on the -24vdc side of the voltage when an object came in proximity range.
Check out page three of this adobe file http://www.ab.com/sensors/products/proximity_sensors/pdf/872CP.pdf.
It shows this schematically, as well as the pnp (sourcing) and npn (sinking) terminology.
It always seems easier to remember for me that sourcing is a positive type signal while sinking is a negative type signal.
